Greetings from Windows on the World - Books & Art! We are a full-service, independent bookstore located in the town of Mariposa in the western foothills of California's central Sierra Nevada. We are at the southern end of the historic Mother Lode gold-mining region and on the “all year highway” into Yosemite National Park, one of America’s premier national parks.
Our Books
In additiion to a broad and eclectic selection of new and used books, we specialize in titles relating to the natural and cultural history, art, and literature of Yosemite National Park, Mariposa County, the Mother Lode, the Sierra Nevada, California, and the West, including maps, atlases, guide books, and travelogues.
Who We Are
A newcomer to the downtown Mariposa business community, we envision our store becoming a local community resource: a gathering place; an "information station"; a venue for artists, writers, musicians, and people; and things we haven't even dreamed of yet! While the bookstore is new to the community, owners Gary and Reva Colliver are long-time community members. Having met and married in Yosemite in the early '60's, they have travelled widely, yet always returned "home" to the Sierra Nevada, Yosemite, and Mariposa County.

Local author and Yosemite National Park ranger Shelton Johnson's debut novel -- the story of fictional Elijah Yancy (inspired by Shelton's exploration of his own family's past, as well as his research related to Yosemite), who is born in Spartanburg, South Carolina and ultimately finds his way to Yosemite National Park by way of the U.S. Cavalry.
